Learning to "Bridge The Gap" as Healthcare Professionals

We strive to create the best coaches in the industry. We want YOU to feel comfortable tackling more complex cases whether you are completely new to functional wellness or a more advanced coach.

Why Functional Coaching Systems?

The world of functional medicine is gaining momentum as patients are searching for answers to their chronic symptoms. You're probably seeing an uptick in GI issues, insulin resistance, hypothyroidism, autoimmune disease, and hormonal "imbalances." You're probably hearing a lot of clients express to you that no matter what they do, they can't seem to get better. Perhaps they were even told their labs looked normal or left an office visit having more questions than when they entered. It is our job as healthcare providers to ensure a patient feels seen and heard and to "bridge the gap" between a conventional medicine diagnosis and their plan of treatment.

Functional medicine teaches us that all the systems of the body are intertwined. Instead of the typical route of a patient seeing their PCP, then being referred to several different specialists, we must show them the connection to map out their phases of care. This is why you'll rarely see hormonal symptoms without blood sugar dysregulation; inflammation as a driver of autoimmune diagnoses; hypothyroidism paired with digestive woes and high stress; gut disorders and "sluggish" liver detoxification - the list goes on and on.

But, perhaps this is all a whole new world for you - that's why we created Functional Coaching Systems. We'll be deep diving into many of the common symptoms you'll see clients present with and teach you how to take this information and apply it in your practice. The goal here is education and collaboration - we want to ensure YOU feel supported as you learn this material so that your patients may feel better, too.

Gillis Pellegrin

Gillis is a dedicated and impact-driven professional, with extensive knowledge and experience in functional medicine and nutrition. For the past few years, he has been helping physicians as well as online nutrition coaches provide comprehensive dietary advice to their patients, inspiring them to make healthier decisions about what they eat. His enthusiasm for transforming lives through nutrition education is contagious, transforming countless individuals suffering from various health conditions. He's passionate about teaching others how to use food as medicine to restore balance in their bodies and improve overall health. With his wisdom and expertise, it’s no wonder why he is considered an invaluable asset in the field of functional medicine! Growing up, he had an eye for life's complexities and nuances - specifically the impact nutrition can have on our overall well-being. Early on he tapped into his natural affinity for sports and physical activities, honing it further as he joined the military. There he not only gained invaluable experience but also worked towards his own personal goals of optimal health and nutrition in order to become a stronger version of himself. After completing time on active duty, Gillis went on to pursue his education further in Nutrition and Exercise & Nutritional Sciences, culminating with earning both a bachelors' degree as well as a master's degree, which allowed him to become a functional nutrition consultant. He has worked with everyone from athletes to everyday individuals looking to make positive changes in their lives through nutritional improvements.

Testimonials

I have been mentored under Gillis and Alyssa for 3 years and it has been my favorite investment.

Like most coaches, I started coaching clients with basic macros and foundational habits. However, I started to realize the importance of functional nutrition, hormones, gut health and more when a calorie deficit for some clients was not enough. I also struggled with imposter syndrome.

Through FCS, I have become a much more confident coach. I have elevated my clients' results. I have learned how to better assess a client's dietary intake and teach them how to reduce inflammation and get supporting vitamins and minerals through specific FOODS first, rather than jumping to supplements. I have learned how to read blood serum testing into functional ranges. I have learned how a simple Complete Blood Panel can give us signs into what a client is struggling with (parasites, SIBO, & more). I have learned how to create parasite and gut protocols.

Gillis is an absolute hormone and nutritional periodization master. He is extremely patient and makes education simple & understandable. From his many years of coaching hundreds of clients, he is able to provide wise and realistic coaching advice to help you coach some of your most resistant/challenging clients.

Alyssa’s expertise goes far beyond any course I have taken. She is constantly learning and sharing the latest functional methods with us. Her coaching is clear and specific, so you know exactly how to help your client. She responds very quickly to questions in Slack and email, which is helpful when you have a client ‘emergency’ or need to adjust a protocol. With Alyssa’s help I have learned about gut health, mold toxicity, parasites, EBV, heavy metals, and more.

If you want to become a more confident coach and learn how to listen to your clients' symptoms, identify the root cause, and help them function… then FCS is for you!

Taylor Dove

Dove Method Nutrition

The biggest issues I faced as a new coach is that I was finding that at least half of my clients wouldn't be responding to the basic programming of better nutrition, lifestyle, and exercises that I gave to them.

They had deeper internal health issues that I just was not familiar with how to handle and navigate.

I took this course to help me better serve them.In the past, I would try to improve their nutrition, and lifestyle but puzzle pieces were still missing. I didn't feel like I could see the whole picture.

As coaches, we have the responsibility to help our clients to the fullest in every area of their health. Not one puzzle piece should be missing. FCS helped me fill those puzzle pieces that were missing by diving deeper into WHY these clients weren't responding to a normal health regimen.

Everybody has hormones and a lot of people have imbalanced hormones. It amazed me when I started diving into more of this with clients, how many of them had imbalances that we didn't know about.

FCS helped me understand when it was a problem I could solve, or whether I needed to refer them out to someone who could help them.

We need to hold ourselves to a higher standard than a "calorie deficit." I believe every single coach should take this course. It will take you to the next level in helping your clients get better, lasting results and know how to educate your clients too on their health and how important their internal health is.

I enroll every one of my assistant coaches in this course. I believe it is THAT important.

Tana Grenda

Bristol Bay Fitness

I have known Gillis and Alyssa collectively for about three years now. I completed ongoing mentorship with Gillis for 1.5 years and have had guidance from Alyssa for specific client cases. I truly cannot speak highly enough of the two of them.

As a Registered Dietitian and Online Health and Fitness Coach who specializes in women's health, I am consistently looking to level up my knowledge and skills for my clients. Both of these incredible humans have helped me to do so. Gillis always took the time to sit down with me and review difficult client cases in depth. No question was ever too big or too small for him. He went above and beyond for me, and his thoroughness and ability to help me see the bigger picture has allowed me to grow tremendously.

Alyssa has always been one of my go-tos for all things gut-health. Over the years, she has helped simplify many complex client cases and has helped me truly apply my knowledge about gut health to create massive improvements in my clients. Alyssa has always been there to answer my questions without hesitation. I trust both of them so much that I also have my assistant coach mentoring with them as well.

Gillis and Alyssa have the knowledge, expertise, and real-life experience to help you level up your skills as a coach, as long as you are willing to learn! I am so thankful for both of them, as they've played a massive role in my success and impact as a functional health coach!
